One of the hearts of the Tassie Wilderness World Heritage Area – an ancient landscape of glacial carved peaks, plateaus and hidden elevated tarns. Wild weather straight of the roaring forties smashes into western portion of the state and often dumps snow and wild weather on the area. Spectacular vegetation, alpine communities, button grass and myrtle beech forests (amongst others) compose the patchwork of the park.
This is a true hiking mecca, with seemingly endless options in the region – ranging from maintained trails, to rough trails and offtrack/above snow line hiking. The main trail is the Overland Trail, traversing from north the south through the park, with many and varied hikes/side trails branching off it.
The Cradle Mountain – Lake St. Clair National Park – where these photos were taken – is the traditional lands of the Lairmairrener nation. I respectfully acknowledge the Traditional Owners of these lands and waters on which I was able to traverse, learn, and appreciate – and pay respect to the First Nations Peoples and their elders, past, present and future.
